Chrome Frequently Visited Sites Not Showing
I am working on a site where the user can see the list of pages that they have visited, I tried using iframe but that does not work as per expectation. I am looking for a clean and intuitive interface something like google chrome. I would like to provide a thumbnail view of the recently visited pages. Question from Kenneth O.: I started using Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer a while back, and I really like it.But starting last night I can’t get to certain websites in Chrome even though I can get to them just fine in other web browsers. As far as I know I haven’t changed any settings or anything. What could be the problem?Rick’s answer: There are a number of possible causes for this problem Kenneth, but the two most common (and most likely) are having your browser set to use a proxy server or corrupted cookies on your hard drive. The following steps will eliminate both possibilities:1 – Load Chrome, then click the Menu icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen (it looks like 3 dots stacked vertically).2 – Click Settings.3 – Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Advanced link.4 – Scroll down to the System section and click Open proxy settings.5 – After the Internet Properties window pops up, click the LAN settings button.6 – Make sure the box beside Use a proxy server for your LAN is unchecked, then click Ok. Now, click Ok again. If that box was previously checked, try visiting a website that you couldn’t reach before and see if it will load now.Important: The box mentioned above isn’t checked by default.
The fact that it was checked could mean you have malware on your system. If so, will explain how to get rid of it.If the proxy server setting wasn’t the culprit, try clearing the cookies that Chrome has stored on your hard drive. Here’s how:1 – Click the Menu icon (the 3 vertical dots) in the upper right-hand corner of the screen again.2 – Click Settings.3 – Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Advanced link.4 – In the Privacy section, click Clear browsing data.5 – In the drop down box beside Clear the following items from, select the beginning of time.6 – Check the boxes beside the top 4 entries, then click Clear browsing data. You should now be able to access the websites that you couldn’t get to before. If not, let me know and we’ll go from there.Update from Kenneth: Rick, it was the cookies. After I cleared them out everything started working just fine. By the way, the proxy server setting was unchecked.

Hello Mahesh,Thank you for your reply.I do not know which version of Explorer I have, I have tried to find that before I posted the question but could not find it anywhere. However, I do not believe I have Explorer 9, but again, I have no information to prove it.I did a system restore last night, and after that the 'New Tab' came up with all my favorite websites. But this morning, after my laptop has been sleeping, the same blank boxes in the 'new tab'.If there is a significant difference in how to get that page back and working in Explorer 8, can you perhaps direct me to where I can find the information on that?Thank you in advance, your help is very much appreciated.Milli D. Yesterday my system shut down to protect my laptop from damage (or words to that effect).Sounds like you lost your History then.
That can happen. Is your History working now? (Press Ctrl-Shift-H and choose View by Order Visited Today).
Frequently Visited Sites Not Working Chrome
FWIW I'm not sure when the 'most visited' starts repopulating after History is cleared. (Ditto for History'sView By Most Visited.) As long as History is working I imagine it will start coming back eventually.
Most Frequently Visited Sites
This is why saving interesting or frequently used URLs in Favorites is a better plan than assuming they will always be present from History.Good luckRobert Aldwinckle. There is no history in the 'View by Order Visited Today'. If I understand correctly from your post, this means there is no repopulation of the 'most visited' possible, right?Yes. To see what your History actually contains you can enter: shell:HistoryOtherwise to reinitialize it you should delete it, either using the Ctrl+Shift+Delete dialog (checking only History) or, if necessary by using another administrator account to delete your account's entire History folder. It would regenerate the next timeyou need it.HTHRobert.
