Beatriz Sarlo (b. 1942) is an Argentine literary and cultural critic. She was also founding editor of the cultural journal Punto de Vista, an important publication covering art and politics founded during the height of Argentina's military dictatorship led by Jorge Videla. She has written extensively on Argentine culture, literary and otherwise. He has translated the work of numerous writers from the Portuguese, including Mia Couto, Paulo Coelho, Afonso Henriques de Lima Barreto, 2016 Nobel nominee Lygia Fagundes Telles, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, and Alice Sant'anna.
He has also edited anthologies of Brazilian writing. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, Freeman's, and other publications. After a stint in Rio de Janeiro, he now lives in New York.Julia Tomasini is a writer and literary translator from Buenos Aires and assistant director for academic programs at New York University-Buenos Aires. She completed her undergraduate degree at the Universidad de Buenos Aires before earning her MA in Latin American literature at the University of Maryland and her PhD at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, where she wrote her dissertation on the Brazilian novels of Argentinean writer Manuel Puig. As a translator, she works between Portuguese, French, English, and Spanish.
She has taught courses in language, literature, cultural studies, and translation at several universities.
